Jochem de Vries' (born: 13th December 1979, Nieuwegein, the Netherlands) interest in cinema came at the age of 17. In the second last year of the Rudolf Steiner School (high school) he decided to make a video film, where he gave teachers and classmates the leading roles. Later he studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts where he made several short films and documentaries and learned the basics of film writing and directing. In the 3rd year he wrote and directed his first serious 25 min. feature "Gesloten" (aka "Locked") which was selected at some Film Festivals.

In his last year he made "Villa de Ves" (33 min) as his graduation film. The film was shot in Belgium. Also "Villa de Ves" was awarded and selected at some Film Festivals.

After the Utrecht School of the Arts he followed a scriptwriting workshop at the Scriptschool in Amsterdam and he studied in Poland at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing for a year to develop his first long feature film screenplay titled "Cornea".

While writing further he made more shorts films and documentaries like "Trans Siberian Voices" (selected at Semaine de la Critique @ Cannes Film festival) and "Missen" (aka Missing) nominated for a Palm d'Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2009. Missen won many prizes. In 2012 his feature film "Cornea" has finally started pre-production, the film will be produced by NFI Productions.
